Emend — Support

Emend is an offline writing app for fiction. Your writing stays on your device, and there is no account to sign in to.

Need help or found a bug?

Email support@sunlitgamestudio.com. Email is the one way we may receive information from you: your email address and whatever you put in the message, which we use only to reply. Please do not send a backup or your manuscript unless it is necessary for the issue and you are comfortable sharing it.

Frequently asked questions

Where is my writing stored?

On your device, in Emend’s local database and app documents. There is no Emend account, cloud sync, or server that stores it for you. Deleting the app deletes its local data, so make a backup first.

How do I back up my library?

Settings → Backups creates a JSON file containing your books, ideas, notes, drafts, saved revisions, dictionary entries, and trash. Share it anywhere you keep files. A Markdown export contains only one book’s current prose and is meant for reading or moving your text elsewhere.

What happens when I restore a backup?

Restore reads the file you pick, shows you what it contains, then adds separate copies. It keeps everything already in the app, so restoring twice produces duplicates rather than overwriting anything.

I deleted something by mistake.

Books and ideas go to Trash (Settings → Trash), where they can be restored. Earlier versions of a chapter are in Revision history, reached from the chapter’s Tools.

Does Emend use AI?

Not in this version. “Prepare a passage” only copies text to your clipboard so you can use it in an app of your choice, and “Use a response” pastes a result back into a draft you review first. Emend sends nothing anywhere.
