Sleep Map

Privacy

The short version: Sleep Map collects nothing about you and has nowhere to send it. There is no account and no server of ours. The app talks to the network in exactly one place — searching for your hometown — and that goes to Apple Maps, not to us.

What is collected

Nothing. Sleep Map has no user accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, no third-party SDKs, and no tracking of any kind.

There is no server of ours holding your data, no company receiving it, and no third party it could be shared with — not by policy, but because the app has no way to send it. It contains no code that transmits anything to us.

What is stored, and where

Everything the app knows lives in its own storage on your device:

None of it is ever sent to us, and none of it is used for anything but drawing your own map. Deleting the app deletes all of it. There is no backup on our side to delete, because there is no our side. (The one thing that does travel is the hometown search itself, before any of this is stored — see below.)

Apple Health

Sleep Map can read sleep analysis samples from Apple Health, and only that category. It is used for one purpose: to work out when you actually fell asleep and woke, so a night can be confirmed without relying on you putting the phone down and picking it up.

It is optional. If you decline the permission, or never turn it on, the app works completely — it falls back to the manual “phone down at bedtime, pick it up in the morning” flow, and no feature is withheld.

Health data is read on your device, used there, and never transmitted, shared, sold, or used for advertising or marketing. Sleep Map does not write anything to Apple Health.

You can withdraw access at any time in Settings › Health › Data Access & Devices › Sleep Map, or in Settings › Privacy & Security › Health. The app keeps working; it goes back to the manual flow.

Searching for your hometown

When you pick your hometown, the app searches for it using Apple Maps (MapKit, built into iOS). What you type in that field is sent to Apple’s mapping service to return matching places. This is the only part of Sleep Map that uses the network.

That search is handled by Apple under Apple’s privacy policy. We never see it, never store it, and never receive the result. The app does not ask for your device’s location — it has no location permission at all, so your hometown is only ever a place you typed, not somewhere you were detected.

Once your hometown is set, nothing else in the app needs the network.

Notifications

If you allow them, Sleep Map can remind you when your bedtime is approaching and prompt you in the morning. These are scheduled on your device from the times you chose. Nothing is sent from anywhere, and you can turn them off in iOS Settings.

Photographs and stories

The place photographs and the text they are drawn from come from Wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia, used under their licenses, with the photographer and license shown beside each image in the app. They are bundled inside the app rather than fetched, so viewing them makes no network request and reveals nothing about you or what you are looking at.

Children

Sleep Map collects no personal information from anyone, of any age, including children under 13. There is no account to create and nothing to submit.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the revised version will be posted here with a new date below. Since the app collects nothing, any change would be about doing less, not more.
