Untwine — Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 31, 2026
Untwine (“the app”) is made by Sunlit Game Studio LLC (“we,” “us”). This policy explains what the app collects, which is nothing.
Untwine is a task app with a reflection tool attached, so some of what you write in it is likely to be personal — what you are avoiding, and why. We think that raises the bar rather than lowering it, and this page is written to be specific rather than reassuring.
The short version
- We collect nothing. There is no account, no sign-in, and no server of ours. We have no way to see anything you write.
- No analytics, no tracking, no advertising, and no third-party code of any kind.
- Everything stays on your device by default. Deleting the app deletes it.
- iCloud sync is optional and off until you are asked. If you turn it on, your data goes to your own private iCloud database — between you and Apple, never to us.
What stays on your device
All of it, and only on your device unless you turn on sync:
- Your tasks, projects, subtasks, dates and reminders.
- How you rated a task — its priority, its effort, and how hard it feels.
- Everything from an Untwine session: what you named as hard, the step you chose, and anything you wrote.
- Which support actions you tried, and how you said you felt afterwards.
- Your settings — appearance, theme, and the name you set for yourself, if you set one.
iCloud sync
Sync is off when you install the app and stays off until you are asked on first launch and say yes. That is deliberate: turning on sync pulls as well as pushes, so switching it on silently could put data on your screen you never asked to see.
When it is on, your data is mirrored to the private database of your own iCloud account, using Apple’s CloudKit. It is governed by your agreement with Apple and by Apple’s privacy policy. We have no access to it, no credentials for it, and no way to read it. We could not hand it over if we were asked to, because we do not have it.
You can turn sync off at any time in the app’s settings. Removing data already in iCloud is done through your Apple account settings, since it is your storage rather than ours.
Export
The app can export everything it holds as a JSON or Markdown file. That file is written on your device and handed to the iOS share sheet — nothing is uploaded. Where it goes next is entirely your choice, and once you send it somewhere it is covered by whatever you sent it to.
Notifications
If you set a reminder, or ask the app to bring you back to a task at a chosen time, it needs permission to send notifications. Those are scheduled and delivered on your device. Nothing about them is sent to us, and declining the permission leaves the rest of the app working normally.
What we do NOT collect
- No names, email addresses, or contact details.
- No location, no photos, no contacts, no health data, no microphone or camera access.
- No device identifiers, advertising identifiers, or crash reports.
- No usage analytics of any kind — we do not know whether you opened the app today.
Purchases and advertising
Untwine is free. There are no purchases, no subscriptions, and no advertising in it.
Children
Untwine is a general-audience app. It collects no personal information from anyone, including children, and contains no ads, no purchases and no way to communicate with other people.
Not medical care
Untwine offers general wellbeing prompts and low-risk things to try. It is not medical care, therapy, diagnosis, or crisis support, it does not claim to be, and nothing in it is a clinical instrument. It cannot tell you what is wrong or promise that an exercise will help. If you are struggling, please talk to someone who can actually help — a doctor, a therapist, or a crisis line where you live.
Your choices and rights
- Delete everything: the app has a “delete everything” control in its settings, and deleting the app removes what is on the device. If you turned sync on, also remove the app’s data from your iCloud account in your Apple settings.
- Take it with you: export the whole store as JSON or Markdown, any time, without asking us.
- Notifications: decline the prompt, or turn them off later in iOS Settings.
- Laws such as the GDPR (EEA/UK) and CCPA (California) give you rights to access, correct, export or delete the personal data a company holds about you. We hold none, so there is nothing for us to hand over or erase. We do not sell personal information, and we never have.
Apple
The app is distributed through the App Store under Apple’s own terms. Any data Apple collects as the distributor, or holds as your iCloud provider, is covered by Apple’s privacy policy, not this one.
Changes
We’ll update this page and the “last updated” date above if this policy changes. If a future version of the app ever collects anything at all, this page will say so before that version ships.
